In any retail or service business, keeping track of sales activity during specific working hours or by individual staff members is essential. A Shift represents the period when a cashier or staff member is actively using the POS system to conduct sales. Each shift has a:
Start time (when the register opens)
End time (when the register closes)
Opening cash and Closing cash
Record of all transactions that happened during that time
This makes it easier to audit sales, track staff activities, and balance the cash drawer at the end of the day.
To begin selling, you must first start a shift:
Launch the Nexchar Mobile POS app on your device.
Tap the "Shift" button from the dashboard.
You’ll be prompted to enter the Opening Cash Balance – this is the amount of cash you physically put in the drawer at the beginning of the shift.
(Optional) Add any notes related to the shift – for example, “Morning Shift – Staff: Alex”.
Tap “Confirm”.
The system will now track all activities (sales, payments, refunds, discounts, etc.) under this shift.
Note: Cashiers and sellers will only have access to the sales screen during an active shift and cannot start or end it.
Tap the same "Shift" button on the home screen.
If a shift is already active, the button changes to "End Shift" automatically.
This opens a summary screen that displays:
Shift Start Time (e.g., April 6, 10:00 AM)
End Time as “Now” (current time)
This gives you a clear snapshot of when the shift began and when you're closing it.
Below this, you’ll see a button labeled “View Running Shift”.
Tap this to go to the Shift Details page where you can see:
Payment breakdown (Cash, Card, etc.)
Total sales and refunds
Discounts
Opening cash and expected drawer balance
This is helpful if you want to double-check the sales before closing the shift.
Once reviewed, go back and tap “End Shift”.
The shift will be officially closed and saved. A Shift Report will be generated which you can review later or export for records.
You have two easy options to open this page:
From the End Shift pop-up, tap “View Running Shift” to instantly see current shift data.
Or navigate manually:
Menu → Report → Shift Report
This shows a list of all previous shifts.
👉 Tap the top-most shift to view the currently running one.
This page gives you a full overview of everything happening during the shift, including:
🕒 Shift Start Time – When the shift was started
💵 Opening Cash – The amount you started with in the drawer
💰 Total Sales – Split by payment types (Cash, Card, Digital Wallets, etc.)

👉 Cashiers or Sellers do not have access to the shift button for security and control reasons.
If a shift is already active, another one cannot be started until the current shift is ended.
Yes. For accurate sales tracking, cash monitoring, and accountability, it is strongly recommended to start a new shift each working day or at the beginning of every session.
If you forget to end a shift, don’t worry — the system will automatically end the shift after 48 hours from the start time.
However, it's still best practice to manually end your shift at the end of your working period. This helps:
Keep shift data organized
Ensure accurate cash tracking
Avoid confusion when reviewing reports
Yes. Go to Menu → Report → Shift Report to view all past shifts.
